It's been a while. I have to post some photos up here soonish. I got a costume done for Panty of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. I love the show and the character, and her personality suits me.
I had a freaking breakdown when CosplayWig sent me the wrong wig. So some poor OhayoCon person got my wig and I got theirs. BLECH. Ended up having to temporarily use a friend's wig and style it to the best of my ability. I guess it came out alright. It premiered at the Wizard World New Orleans. I think I had one or two people recognize me, most everyone else thought I was from Battlestar Galactica. I didn't care. I really have to say that so far, Panty has been the most fun costume to wear.
I am currently in the market for a job, so I haven't been able to do much. Since I already have some material for other costumes, I will probably work on those until I have a job and can get materials for other costumes. Also have a prop commission to get started on. That will come first.
I'll make a separate post from this about Wizard itself, with a little review and some stories. Mmm, best stories.
Chronicles of a Louisiana Cosplayer
This blog has everything from tutorials, links and interviews of other cosplayers, and progress on my costumes! I hope that it will be fun and informative for all who read!

ARGH that pvc.
So I have decided that I am no longer going to work on Starfighter until after Christmas. I *should* be getting a dressform for Christmas and I am just sick of wasting fabric.
I've run into a lot of design issues making this costume, and I feel at this point- It would go much easier after getting that form. hnnnnng I cannot wait to get that form.
I'm really hoping to have the costume complete by the end of January (Wizard World). I'll just have to work on it regularly for the month leading up to the con.
I've also reserved my room for Dragon*Con today! I am still awaiting my confirmation e-mail, and if I don't get it by the middle of next week, I am going to call them back. It's for a hotel that is just about to open up, so I figure their systems aren't all together yet. Still $115 a night for a hotel in downtown Atlanta with breakfast included! Hell to the yes! That is amazing considering most the other hos/overflown hotels are at least $150.
I am so excited about that trip!!!! It's going to be a crazy rush! Two cons in the same week! My local con- that I work for is the weekend before...and we leave for DragonCon the next Thursday! Weeeeew!

As promised, photos!
This is going to be a photo dump. Yup.
So here is a fromt view of the mock-up of the shorts. Oh, and my wig. I know it's shorter than it should be, but I really didn't want to fight another long ass wig.
From the side. I decided that the bra came out good enough that I am going to use it, but replace the black with purple and just clean it up.
Here are the front of the pants PVC. I didn't have any problems with the front. It was the back.
This was what I ended up with before cleaning it up some more. You can see how the back doesn't really make that "V" shape, which I have found out is really hard to do on your butt. The way it was working was if you cut a "v", it would end up being too far down my rear end. So I ended up with this. I've hemmed the top of the back since this.
What do you think? Should I leave them like they are for now or use more fabric and try to get that "V"? Advice? :-)
And to answer your Question fuchslein- Yours should be easier than mine. Faye just has shorts with no special shape. The starfighters have very...Pointy shorts with a weird shape. If you want your shorts to be tight, do them as close to your size as you can, without going over.
So you understand sorta about what I mean by "pointy" shorts.

AUGH SHORTS
Ok, so sometime tomorrow I will be posting pictures of the annoying bastards.
So I made a mock up, but when I made my additions, they were a bit large and for whatever reason, a little off. I have since fixed the problems, but not before cutting a second back portion to my shorts. Which means I wasted some PVC. BAH. I have spent the last several hours just on those damn shorts.
Because the shorts for Starfighter scoop so low, I ended up having to dart the back of the shorts so they sit correctly without that omg huge flap. Haha.
I know I am fussing now, but I really can be such a perfectionist. I don't mind though.
All in all though, the shorts won't be the hardest part of this whole thing.....It's going to be the gloves. If anyone knows of any good tutorials for gloves (long ones would be awesome), please comment with a link!
Anyways, I'll have lots of pictures tomorrow!

Next con!
So the next con I will be attending is Wizard World New Orleans. I'm not going for more than one day though, as I have been to Wizard in other states and just don't find it worth my money to go for both days. To be honest, I'm only going to look at figures in the dealers room.
I've been working on Sailor Starfighter recently, as well as an unannounced costume I will be using for Wizard World, and probably again at Dragon*Con.
I'll certainly have some pictures of the progress up soon, because I have the next two (OMG TWO) weekends off! I've gotten my Starfighter wig done, as well as some of the mock up. I figured since the costume has such strange cuts that I would be way better off doing a mock-up instead of wasting good fabric.
Aaaaanyway, time for me to get ready for work!

Wooo, it's been a while.
It's been a while. Now that the Halloween season is over, I have a few more moments to spare.
I've gotten most of my materials for Sailor Starfighter and will be working on her at some point in the future. I am actually probably going to wait to start any costumes until post Xmas, so I can see if I get my dress form. That will be major useful with all of the form fitting costumes to come in the next year.
Ren faire is this weekend as well. No real major cosplay there, probably going to reuse some things. Once ren faire is over I'm going to start a master cleanse diet my best friend just told me about. It's supposed to help you lose roughly a pound a day and you can stay on it for up to 40 days. (I'm only going to do 10) It's really simple and only uses lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water. So I guess we will see.
Got to be in shape for all the awesome costumes this year!

Just a minor update.
So over the past few days I've been working on blueprints for my next large cosplay prop. I worked out the base size and all on some graph paper and drew it life size today. Holy crap, this gun is HUGE. I may need to make a few alterations here and there, but overall it looks good.
I'll try to get pictures of it up tomorrow or something.
Next is to try to make blueprints for the Gunbee scooter. -.-
